Quick and Easy Home Updates

If you’re anything like me, you’ll always be looking for quick and easy ways to update your home (the cheaper the better of course!) With Easter just around the corner and most of us looking forward to four days off work, I thought now would be the perfect time to share a few ideas on how you can update your home without having to spend too much time or money.

All of these ideas are super quick and super cheap (some won’t even cost you a penny!) so you can spend the Easter weekend how it is meant to be spent…eating chocolate!

Change Cushion Covers

I have a box full of cushion covers in my loft, when I get bored of the ones I have out, I swap them over – particularly at the start of a new season. H&M and the supermarkets – particularly George at Asda are great for picking up a bargain.

Painting

Painting needn’t be expensive or time consuming. Consider painting just one wall or even sections of a wall to really transform a room. Or how about painting woodwork or radiators in contrasting colours?

Move Around Accessories

A really good tip I read once was to take down all of your accessories throughout the house and rearrange them in different places and different rooms. You’d be suprised at the difference this makes! And all without spending a penny.

Replace or Add New Lighting

You can pick up light shades or lamps really cheaply these days. BHS has to be one of my favourite places to shop for lighting, and they always seem to have a sale on – even better!

Get Yourself on eBay

I have a saved search on eBay for furniture and home furnishings within a 2 mile radius of my house. There are some real bargains to be had out there – it pays to keep checking reguarly! When looking for furniture focus on whether the overall shape and size is right and don’t be put off if the finish isn’t too your liking. It’s incredibly easy to transform furniture with a lick of paint and new handles. Which leads us nicely onto…

Replace Handles

Replacing door or drawer handles on existing furniture for a super quick update. I love Zara Home and Anthropologie for handles, they have some really quirky designs.

Paint Tiles

Painting tiles used to be risky but it isn’t any longer. There are some really good tile paints available. I would however stick to smaller areas like kitchen splashbacks rather than attempting to do your whole bathroom if it’s your first time using them.

Add House Plants

House plants are well and truly back in fashion. Ikea has to be the best for cheap on-trend plants (yes, plants can be on trend!)

Change Artwork

New artwork doesn’t need to be expensive. Have a look on Etsy for downloadable prints. Once they’re framed you’ll never be able to tell you printed them at home. Or have a go at painting or drawing something yourself!

Move Furniture Around

Experiment with a different layout in living rooms and bedrooms, you may find you like it! We recently re-shuffled our bedroom so our bed now faces the window, it’s made such a difference!

Add or Swap Rugs

People think of rugs as being expensive but they don’t need to be. Use small rugs to zone areas in your home, or simply move them around from room to room. I love House Envy for their quirky styles, I used one of their small leather and metallic rugs as wall art in my living room.

So there you have it, lots of quick and easy ways to update your house this Spring. I’d love to hear all your ideas – I’m sure you have lots more for me – so please leave me a comment below.

  1. Kate – BHS is the absolute best place for lighting. I bought that exact ” house”style in a recent event and its so nice. The exposed bulb – especially as this bulb is an led – looks fab. Their home offer improves every season! I recently spray painted some old home accessories to give them a new lease of life (my pugs might fly have been orginally silver, white now gold!) to ensure they are always included in whatever room I want them in. Great advice above!
